Today Michael Casselman's lawyer, Bruce Willson officially began the process of filing a bail review for him.
In a video remand court appearance Casselman learned that his bail review hearing will commence on the 25th of September.
If Willson is successful in convincing the courts that Casselman is neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community Casselman will be released that day to await his trial. He faces charges of one count each operating a motor vehicle and exceeding the legal limit causing death and of impaired driving causing death.
Casselman was charged after an August 31 collision in which the pickup truck he was driving hit and killed Christa Lukenda Michaud on Algoma Avenue at the corner of McNabb Street.
Last week’s decision by Justice of the Peace Marcel Bedard to deny Casselman bail was received with mixed reactions by the community.
Another video remand appearance is scheduled for Casselman for September 26.
