Civics Surge U13 Girls Win Gold in Cambridge

The U13 Civics Surge Girls claimed Gold in the prestigious Cambridge Heritage Tournament this past weekend.
After fighting through their round robin matches undefeated, the Surge pounded the Kitchener Spirit 3-0 in the semi-final on two goals by Emily Calibani, one from Bailie Malmloff and Megan Girardi's third shutout of the tournament.
In the Championship game, under the scorching sun, the Surge exploded for three second half goals to beat the powerful Niagara United 3-1. Goal scorers in the Championship Game were Calibani, Nicole Misasi and Ciara Spina.
In the round robin, the Surge began the tournament with a convincing 5-2 drubbing of the Georgetown Mustangs. Calibani fired 2 goals, with singles from Ryea Caughill, Malmloff and Maggie Kirk.
Calibani and Mariah Fata provided the offence in a 2-0 victory over the Guelph Royals. Girardi picked up the shutout.
In their final round robin match, Girardi backstopped the Surge to a 2-0 win over the host Cambridge United A. Calibani and Malmloff provided the offence.
The Surge outscored their competition 15-2 over the weekend, powered by a bulletproof defence, a tough, speedy midfield, and a relentless offensive attack.
The U13 Civics Surge are Kiana Cicchello, Emily Calibani, Mikayla Conley, Sam Battagin, Ciara Spina, Jillian Phillip, Bailie Malmloff, Kristen Palumbo, Megan Girardi, Megan Sizer, Maggie Kirk, Mariah Fata, Danielle Watling, Caitlin Novello, Ryea Caughill, Nicole Misasi, Meagan DeMeo and Angela Caicco. Staff are Jeff Conley, Dave Kirk, Tris Cicchello and Nancy Palumbo.
Next tournament action for the U13 Civics Surge is July 22 & 23 in Sault Ste. Marie. The Surge will host Mississauga Falcons, Greater Sudbury, and Windsor Caboto in first round action of the Ontario Cup.
