The 2012 Cambrian Nissan Midget Black Sox are looking to reload and take another run at the Provincial A championships again this season. The Midget Black Sox captured the Provincial Crown in 2010 and had an early exit from the championship in 2011 going 0-2. As a result some coaching changes were made for this year. Rick Boucher takes over the Team from long time Coach Ryan Johns, who has retired from Coaching. Coach Boucher brings a strong teaching philosophy and has assembled a strong coaching staff of Larry Pallot, and Black Sox Alumni JJ Bergamin and Keith Luck. Long time coach and baseball founder Mike Lebel remains with the team and assists with team operations and is a mentor to the Team staff.
The Black Sox return 9 players from 2011, lead by the Seniors Collin McAuley who will play 1st and 3rd base and pitch. Collin is committed to Seina Heights University for the 2012 College season and has lead the team in Home-runs over the past 2 years with 9. Kris Kerr will be relayed on heavily on the mould this season to duplicate his 2011 Stats. The crafty lefty lead the 2011 pitching corp in starts with 13, innings pitched of 57 2/3, ERA of 4.25 and 61 strike outs.
The Black Sox will look to Jeb Pallot and Jordan Pine the lone Juniors on the team to take on a big leadership role in this years Great Lakes Baseball League and into the Provincial Championships. Jeb patrols the middle infield positions as well as pitches, and Jordan has the ability to run down any ball in the outfield, and will pitch in relief this season.
Last years team carried 5 rookies and coach Boucher and staff are looking for these 5 to take the next step as sophomores on the team. This group is lead by Coty Anderson who made the team as an underage player last year. Scott Morphet, Dominic Buonomo, Adam Bouillion & Trevor Sayers will help this years group of rookies adjust to the heavy schedule largely played in Michigan against American Legion teams.
This years Team welcomes 5 new Rookies to the Team. Eric Thornton, Cody Yardanoff & Brad Manson have all Graduated from the Bantam Black Sox program from last year, along with Matt Goodall as an affiliated player. Brock Barry and Dana Lesage have come out of the Soo Minor Baseball system to round out the Roster.
The Cambrian Nissan Black Sox Schedule starts May 3 in Rudyard with a double header vs the Bulldogs. Then starting on May 5th the Black Sox will participate in 3 consecutive High school Tournaments over the next three weekends in Rudyard, Pickford and Sault Michigan. The Black Sox first home game will be May 20 when the Marquette Blues come to Sinclair Yards to play the Black Sox. The Cambrian Nissan Black Sox will once again host an International Tournament on the weekend of June 8, 9 and 10th.
