LETTER TO THE EDITORNormally I don't do this but enough is enough. Tonight, for the fourth time in the past year I was rudely yelled at and accused of not picking my dogs poop up. Unfortunately these people don't seem to know the difference between a female dog and a male dog because if they knew anything about a dogs anatomy they would understand that most female dogs squat to pee as well as poop.

This could be an innocent mistake but not if you are yelling at someone, in a not nice tone - "Are you gonna pick that up?" or "I hope your gonna pick that up!", at which point I have already walked away from the spot where my dog has peed. Tonight I was just so frustrated I replied, "I would but I can't pick up pee." I would also like to add that each time I was yelled at, the spot was not on a home owners property but on the other side of the sidewalk closest to the road, which to my knowledge is considered city property. Regardless I get that the sight of dog poop not picked up is gross and annoying but I also have a bag on the end of my leash in case my dog actually does poop which no one seems to notice.

I understand the frustration of people because I also get annoyed when I see irresponsible dog owners ruining it for the rest of the people who look after their dog when they do their business. There are many people around where I live who don't because I've seen it, smelt it and almost stepped in it. But if you really want to do something about it, try approaching the person and ask "Did you forget a doggie bag?" or "Can you please pick that up for me?" Or better yet, make sure the dog has actually pooped before accusing the person of not picking it up. Otherwise I say to you, is my dogs business really YOUR business?

Sincerely,
Andrea MacArthur
