A line of severe weather hit parts of the Algoma district Wednesday evening including Wawa.

The active thunderstorms were moving southerly last night but fizzled out as it did. Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Searchmont and Batchawana areas last night.

Brenda Grundt from WAWA-NEWS.COM reports torrential downpours and strong winds associated with this storm . "Winds were gusting at 41km/hr with a steady wind of 28km/hr, a change from half an hour earlier of 9km/hr."

"the amount of rain that fell overwhelmed some of the storm drains, causing puddles that were 6-8 inches deep in places. " reports Wawa-News.com

The active weather associated with a hot and humid air mass that sat over the region for the last three days is now giving way to cooler and drier air. Temperatures are expected to sit in the 20c mark for the next several days.
