ANDREA HORWATH NDP LEADERNew Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement on rescue efforts in Elliot Lake and the need for federal assistance

"Over the last three days, Canadians have watched with sadness as disaster unfolded in Elliot Lake and with inspiration as a community came together to confront tragedy. I'm proud of the leadership local MPP Michael Mantha and MP Carole Hughes have shown.

"Now, as we re-double efforts to find loved ones, it's more important than ever that every resource available be used to help the people of Elliot Lake. I urge the Premier to formally request the assistance of Canada's military whose expertise in rescue operations has been seen around the world. I contacted the Prime Minister's Office last night and am told this is a request that must come from the Premier.

"When we look back on these days we must know that we did everything we could to save people's lives and ensured no soul was left behind. We must do everything we can."
