Building on the momentum of their OCAA season opening sweep of Redeemer and Canadore, the Algoma University Thunderbirds basketball teams continued their winning ways on the road this past weekend. The women's team started the weekend off on a positive note, defeating the St. Clair Saints by a score of 71 to 57. Karissa Kajorinne scored 24 points for the Thunderbirds while Corinna Bruni added 17. In Saturday's second game, Reynaldo Carnakie poured in 21 points and Samy Mohamed added 20 as the Thunderbird men's squad secured their third win of the season with a 74 to 56 victory over their rivals from Windsor.
The second match-up of the weekend saw the Thunderbirds travel to Sarnia for afternoon match-ups against the Lambton Lions. The women came away with a 67-46 win while the men wrapped up the road trip with an 84-52 victory. Both teams now sit atop the OCAA after the first two weeks of the season.
The Thunderbirds return to their home court this coming Saturday when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers of Hamilton. Tip-off at the George Leach Centre takes place at noon for the women, followed by the men's game at 2:00 pm.
